What is The Capsule?

The Capsule was a bite-sized online newsletter intended for South Asians. Founded by Cornell alumni Sakib Jamal (Forbes 30 under 30) and Umran Mustafa, the company aimed to keep South Asians up to date with local and global news. At its peak, the company had over 7000 subscribers.

What was my role?

• Developed the website, backend and mass emailing infrastructure capable of managing 4000 subscribers and sending out over 30,000 emails every month
• Conducted research into why emails were ending up in promotions tab; identified content patterns leading to the issue and made guidelines for team members to prevent it; resulted in maintaining an open rate of over 40%
• Built a custom email creation and promotions testing tool leveraging Gmail API, speeding up the process of creating emails by 30%
